[00:20:25] they had allegedly used a life-size bear costume to stage attacks on their vehicles in an attempt to
[00:20:32] secure a six-figure insurance payout the suspects have been charged with insurance fraud and conspiracy
[00:20:39] according to an announcement made by the department on the 13th conspiracy to commit bears
[00:20:46] no not conspiracy to commit bears it just sounds funny right their alleged scam cost three separate
[00:20:53] insurance companies a total of 141 839 dollars rookie numbers operation operation bear claw began
[00:21:03] earlier this year after one of their claims gave an insurance company pause
[00:21:10] yes yes it is spelled that way in january the suspects claimed that a bear had entered
[00:21:16] their rolls royce and caused interior damage while it was parked in a lake a region in san in the san
[00:21:26] bernardino mountains known for its black bear population now listen to this it was it's it was parked
[00:21:35] at like a cabin up in the mountains right and it's known for its black bear population okay the suspects
[00:21:41] provided video footage of the alleged incident to their unnamed insurance company
[00:21:47] also if your insurance company pays for this i want that insurance company they sound real dumb did that
[00:21:52] happen this year which the department has since posted online i will provide a link to this video
[00:21:58] in the description of this episode because it's funny to watch like at one point you watch the bear
[00:22:04] just like crawl up and then open the door and get in and you're like bro it's clearly like the legs are
[00:22:12] obviously bending the wrong direction oh my god i hope that's as funny as it sounds it is so funny uh the video
[00:22:19] shows a furry figure entering through the side door climbing around the back seat and crawling out leaving
[00:22:25] scratch marks on the leather sheets and door yes scratch scratch this is an official statement upon further
[00:22:31] scrutiny of the video the investigation determined the bear was actually a person in a bear costume
[00:22:38] detectives found two more claims involving the same suspects from the same date and location
[00:22:45] involving different cars now this is important because if you watch the video there's only one
[00:22:51] external security camera on this cabin and all three cars during the same night get parked right there
[00:22:58] where the bear attacks and they can see the car in the video right so like video it cuts because you see
[00:23:07] the bear get into the car scratch it up and then it cuts to the next car parked in the same spot and
[00:23:14] then the bear gets in that one and then it cuts again to a third car in the same spot and they get
[00:23:19] that one right this sounds like a snl skit frankly the suspects provided video footage of all of these
[00:23:27] alleged incidents which followed a similar pattern to the first but suspicious authorities didn't rely
[00:23:33] solely on their animal instincts they took additional steps to sniff out the truth right
[00:23:40] now detectives executed a search warrant and found the bear costume complete with a furry snouted head
[00:23:46] paws and metal tools in the shape of claws in the suspect's home this is my favorite part of the
[00:23:52] article right here at the bottom where it says the fur of the costume was a brown color light brown color
[00:23:58] the california department of fish and wildlife says there are only wild black bears in the area
[00:24:07] they couldn't even get the color right i just i feel like if you're that rich why didn't you just have
